Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with extensive world-building, a wide array of heroes, and a thrilling plot featuring divine entities, evil spirits, and dark forces growing in power within the city.
Note: Spoilers for the third episode of Campaign 4 lie ahead.
The Soldiers Table Unveiled
Episode 3 ended with a dramatic pause and introduced the initial group of characters who will split off from the primary party to begin their own adventure, distinct from the other two tables.
The Soldiers table includes Teor Pridesire (played by Travis), Thimble (Laura Bailey), Tyranny (Whitney Moore), Wicander (Sam Riegel), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie Daymond).
Why Split the Party?
With an extensive roster, it was evident from the start that keeping everyone at one table would be unworkable.
This explains, the first four episodes of this story serve as an Introduction, intertwining the individual narratives before splitting into three smaller tables: Fighters, Schemers, and Explorers.
What Defines the Warrior Group
According to the Dungeon Master, the warrior group is for adventurers who enjoy a classically intense battle-oriented narrative style where diplomatic options are scarce.
Initially, characters like the hesitant healer Wicander might look out of place, but the events of episode 3 make it clear why these specific adventurers are best suited for the Soldiers table.
Motivations for Departure
For one thing, the team understands precisely where to proceed after a brutal opening clash with The Crow Keepers.
Casimir of Thjazi Fang—whose demise initiated the story’s plot—used the foes for his selfish purposes, entering the hidden lair, attacking the rogue, and swiping all the powerful objects to auction.
Casimir then settled his liabilities and escaped to a secure base in the remote area, north of the city, with Cyd Pridesire pursuing him.
Individual Reasons
Additionally, each member has a specific drive to depart the metropolitan area:
- The agile hero, as Thjazi’s partner and closest confidant, wants revenge.
- Kattigan is familiar with the northern area and cautions that it is a hostile location.
- Tyranny and The cleric, having disobeyed his family’s wishes to eliminate Teor and instead rescued him, have no other options.
- Yet, their status as important members in House Halovar could enable the group access places they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Moreover, Teor pledged a life debt to Wicander for his salvation and will now follow him anywhere.
Wanted and Hunted
In addition, all of them are sought by the rulers that govern the city for a range of causes, making staying in the city dangerous:
- The agile adventurer and Kattigan are recognized lawbreakers.
- The warrior and The cleric turned against House Halovar and the horde of evil beings they are aligned with.
- The target is wanted dead by House Halovar.
This leaves them few options but to journey toward the remote area in quest for the traitor.
What’s Next?
Based on episode three’s post-show segment, we learn that the warrior group will be absent in the upcoming installment, leaving the other eight participants to assemble the Seekers and Planners tables.
Fans can expect finding out which adventurers will be in which group in the season’s final introductory chapter, released on next week.
